The Iowa notarial certificate – attestation of copy is not used for the purpose of acknowledging a signature or administering oaths but to witnessing the copying of an original document. The notary public, having been presented with the original document, is there to affirm that the photocopy being made is a true and complete copy of the original. The copy notary acknowledgement form is worded expressly for this purpose and shall include the notary’s signature and stamp once the affirmation is complete. The notary public is not required to certify the authenticity of the contents of the document, only that the photocopy being made is a true copy of the original document.
