Maine Notarial Certificate – Jurat

A Maine jurat is considered to be a more secure type of notarial certificate compared to its counterparts. A jurat involves the signing of the document in the presence of the notary public as well as an administration of an oath or affirmation confirming the truthfulness of the contents of the document. This process avoids (or at the very least diminishes) the possibility of mistakes and/or fraudulent behavior. The notary public completes the notarial act by filling out the jurat. Although the notary is not required to include (or even possess) an official seal, the Secretary of State highly recommends that they do.
