A Massachusetts notary acknowledgement for a mark is a certificate used when the signatory is unable to properly sign their name on a particular legal instrument. In this case, the signer must make the mark in the presence of the notary public and acknowledge the signature as their own free act and deed. Furthermore, two (2) witnesses unaffected by the document must witness the mark as well, then include their signature and address on the form. Once the notary public’s seal and signature are affixed to the certificate, the instrument is validated.
