Illinois Notary Acknowledgement – Individual

The Illinois notary acknowledgement for an individual is a tool which proves the authenticity of an individual’s signature. The parties involved in the acknowledgement process are the individual seeking signature authentication and the notary public officiating the act. The individual will need to appear before the notary and provide them with identification (if their identity is not already known by the notary) as well as the item being notarized and the acknowledgement form. It is the notary’s duty to ensure the signer’s identity matches that of the individual named in the signed document. Once the notary has established the identity of the individual, the signer will be asked to acknowledge that they inscribed the signature as an act of free will. Thereafter, the notary will finish the notarization by filling out the acknowledgement certificate.
