The Alaska jurat is to be executed when signing an affidavit. The jurat indicates that the signer has appeared before a notarial officer and sworn an oath attesting to the truthfulness of the signed document. Unlike a standard notary acknowledgement, the document requiring notarization must be signed in the presence of a notary public for the jurat to be valid. The notarial officer shall, upon identifying the individual and ensuring they are the party stated in the document, administer the proper oath before completing the jurat.
