The North Carolina notarial certificate for the verification of a subscribing witness is used to verify the signature of an individual who has witnessed the principal’s signing of a legal instrument. The subscribing witness must present themselves before a notary and sign an affidavit which states that they signed the document as a witness. Once the notary public has identified the witness and the witness has signed the affidavit in front of them, the notary can fill out the notarial certificate. For the verification to be valid, the notary must affix their official stamp or seal to the notarial certificate.
